The Honda Prelude has one stock option that should be modified. The Hood is a heavy 100 lbs piece of metal. Carbon fiber hoods should be made on the OEM applications.
- Carbon Fiber Hoods
- Create less drag on the motor
- Carbon Fiber Hood looks good
- Carbon fiber hood Saves on Gas Mileage
- Carbon Fiber hood reduces Body weight
- Carbon fiber hood increases acceleration
Most Honda's are lightweight to begin with. That's why most of their motors are small to begin with. Replacing the hood on these car, will do a lot of things. Depending on which style hood you have can determine the out come.
Some carbon fiber hoods have vented hoods. This allows more air to flow flow into the engine bay. It helps to rid the engine bay of unneeded heat. Most carbon fiber hoods are about 70 - 80 percent lighter. This is indeed a great thing to have on a car. Taking a 100 lbs hood and replacing it with a 20 pound hood is something much over looked when auto racing.
Even hard core racers know that a lighter car will speed up the drag times. Many look at CF hoods not only as something that looks good, but something that has a function that exceeds its looks.
CF hoods, actually increase the gas mileage. Did you know that engines use more gas when they are under load. If you are hauling a boat in your Honda, you are going to burn through your gas very fast. There is a force that is holding the car down, and when you hold it down, the engine works harder so that it can compensate. The same rule applies when you get rid of stock weight. If your Honda weights 2700 LBS and you can drop it down by 400 pounds with carbon fiber parts, well you not only increase the MPG, but you can utilize your stock HP better. Meaning that you get faster acceleration with just a diffrent hood.
All this is gained from switching to a carbon fiber hood.
